Adrian Holovaty discusses his brand-new project Soundslice (http://www.soundslice.com/), a rich HTML5 Web application for annotating YouTube videos. He'll discuss the motivation for the project, its evolution over three years of changing technologies, and provide details on the technology behind the scenes. Expect to hear about: solutions to hairy user-interface projects, JavaScript performance techniques, and "Lean Startup" principles (and when to ignore them).
Adrian Holovaty describes himself (http://www.holovaty.com/) as a Chicago web developer and musician. He was the creator, in 2005, of one of the original Google Maps mashups: chicagocrime.org. He has a degree in journalism and has worked at a number of news Web sites, including washingtonpost.com and LJWorld.com. In 2007 he founded EveryBlock, a neighborhood news and discussion site, which was sold to msnbc.com in 2009. He is also the co-creator and co-Benevolent Dictator For Life of the open-source Django Web framework.
While there will be light refreshments available, feel free to "brown bag" it and bring in food from the outside to eat during the social hour.
