Jim Lai - "In God we trust. All others bring data."

This quote by William Edwards Deming has never been more true than it is today. As computing power, Internet connectivity, and storage grow ever greater, data becomes more and more powerful. With great power comes great responsibility, and lawmakers, regulators, plaintiffs' attorneys, advocacy groups, and consumers themselves are increasingly aware of, and concerned about what organizations are doing with the data that they collect.

Learn about legal frameworks that govern the collection and use of personal information, take a look at today's hot-button issues, and explore how organizations can be responsible stewards of the data entrusted to them.

Jim Lai supports Motorola Mobility's global privacy program. He works with product managers, engineers, designers, and marketers to ensure that Motorola's products, services, and marketing efforts respect customer privacy and appropriately identify and manage risks. He also has guided Motorola Mobility's privacy program through acquisition by Google and integration into their program and supported Motorola's efforts to pass an FTC-mandated privacy audit. 

Jim holds a graduate law degree in IT and privacy law from John Marshall Law School and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional. 

Prashant Kaushik - "Trust but Verify"

Ensuring that consumer private information stays private is costly. However, it's even costlier to deal with regulatory fines, remediation work, and damage to consumer trust and the brand. App developers are usually aware of the risks associated with consumer data but more often than not privacy and security requirements gets overlooked. As consumer information travels from the UI and makes it way to the big data, we privacy professionals need to assess what's being collected, how it's transmitted, where is it stored, who will have access to it, who will it be shared with, and, how long will it be kept. Let's talk about some of the tools and controls to protect consumer private information.

Prashant Kaushik manages IT aspects of the Privacy Program at Motorola Mobility. He played a key role in setting up the tools and processes to run the program and to measure it's effectiveness. His current primary focus is on protection of consumer data at every step of the way, from collection to disposal. He also maintains Motorola Mobility's consumer data inventory and works with IT, product, security, data owners, legal and audit teams to ensure adequate privacy controls are implemented.

Prashant holds MS in Information Resource Management from Central Michigan University and is a certified PMP, CIPP/IT and CIPM. 

Daliah Saper - "Protect Your Code: Key legal considerations for the software developer"

In her presentation Daliah Saper will broadly cover:

* Key provisions in a software licensing agreement

* The different protections afforded by trademark and copyright law. 

* Open source licensing benefits and pitfalls

Daliah Saper is a member of the Illinois Bar and both the General Bar and Trial Bar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She has handled many high profile cases (including one she argued before the Illinois Supreme Court) and is regularly interviewed on national tv, radio, and in several publications including: Fox News, CNBC, ABC News, The Chicago Tribune, WGN Radio, NPR, and a slew of smaller websites. She has received the honor of being named a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine  six years in a row, is recognized as a leading Media and Entertainment lawyer by Chambers and Partners, featured on the cover of TheXemplar magazine, profiled by the Chicago Law Bulletin, and has been nominated for the prestigious ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award.  Most significantly, Daliah has also been honored as a “40 Under 40″ by Law Bulletin Publishing Company, an incredibly competitive list of accomplished attorneys compiled from over 1250 highly qualified nominations.
