Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) is the current Microsoft .NET graphics and media subsystem. WPF user interfaces feature controls, graphics, animation, sound, and speech and handwriting recognition. XAML, the declarative language of WPF, supports collaboration between programmers and designers. WPF graphics and sound, built on DirectX, exploits graphics and sound card hardware acceleration. And by learning WPF you gain considerable knowledge to use its subset web-oriented technology: Silverlight.

This talk will show the audience how to build a simple WPF interface with a dynamic data source. We will add animation and sound features to show how WPF can approach the versatility of custom C++/DirectX applications. Last, Marc will show the audience a dynamic, multi-threading stock market example that features C# and .NET interacting with XAML.

Is this a technology that you want to learn? In this last year demand for WPF has shot up incredibly for the Microsoft-oriented portion of the market. Considerable demand comes from medical companies, hedge funds and customer-facing applications that require more than web technologies. This talk, then, will give you a foothold into this challenging but compelling and in-demand technology!
